Railway Post Upgradation DoPT Orders After 7th CPC
The Department of Personnel Training has been approached with the matter of upgradation of the posts for the Railway employees. It has been requested that all posts in the railways be upgraded. Some time ago, the employees had protested for higher wages under the 7th CPC. This time, the railways have come forward for making their posts upgraded. A letter urging for the same has been sent to the DoPT.
Such an upgradation will result in hike in payments for all posts. There are certain grades that are requiring this payment. They are as follows:
Sl. no. | Name of post | Grade Pay recommended for 7th CPC | 6th CPC Grade Pay |
1 | Assistant Metallurgist and Chemist
|
5400 in PB-2 | 4800 |
2 | Chemical and Metallurgical Superintendant | 4800 | 4600 |
3 | Metallurgical and Chemical Assistant | 4600 | 4200 |
4 | Senior Section Officer of Accounts/ Senior Traveling Inspector in Accounts/ Senior Inspector in Store Accounts | 5400 in PB-2 | 4800 |
When these are the justifications that are given, then the railways have approached the DOPT to give clearance for them to be implemented. It must be noted that unless and until the DoPT has given clearance, the implementation cannot be agreed upon.
The scenario right now
There are several issues going on behind the scene. This year, the salaries and the 7th CPC has already been a hot topic of discussion among the government employees. After the protest of the different government employee sections, the government has finally agreed to make changes in its pay hike and other such implementations. However, things are not looking up for the railways. As per the NIFR the following situations are ongoing right now –
- There is an apprehension among the Railways staff that there is a delay in the implementation of the recommended rules by the DoPT. They have also complained that other departments are getting upgraded and their recommendations are being cleared while railways are the only department whose recommendations are delayed by the DoPT.
- A letter addressing the same issues has been sent to the DoPT for consideration. This letter has also been made public. It requests the DoPT to accept the 7th CPC recommendations for upgradations.
The upgradations being talked about here are the ones being mentioned in the table above. If these recommendations are taken, then it will become a lot easier for the railway employees to meet the current rate of inflation and to keep their demands.
It must be noted that the government employees pay hike is sanctioned by the finance commission. The finance minister Arun Jaitley earlier in June had a meeting with the employees to hear their demands.
